On Celebrities and Opinions
Jul. 29th, 2015 09:53 pmThere's something people really need to explain to celebrities.
Say a celebrity believes something. If they're your typical celebrity, what they'll say next is, "Well, everyone listens to me, so I'm just going to tell people to do this or believe that."
Now, there's nothing wrong with celebrities having opinions. They can give out articles and other information, and they can say, "I believe this."
But what someone really needs to explain to celebrities is that the minute you tell people, "BELIEVE THIS LIKE ME OR YOU'RE A BAD/STUPID PERSON," you alienate basically everyone on the planet.
News flash: No one likes to be told what to think. Nobody likes to be told what to do. That's why our current system turning teenagers off to drugs is not working. Because we're telling them, "Don't take drugs!" Guess what the teenager is going to do? He's going to take the drugs. We're not talking about our own experiences; instead, we're commanding.
Well, it's the same thing when it comes to politics, or whatever else strikes some strange celebrity's fancy. People take that commanding tone as demeaning and condescending. They think it implies that the celebrity is somehow smarter than they are. This is particularly ironic because MANY CELEBRITIES BARELY HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION.
School isn't an indicator of intelligence. But it is indicative of a person's ability to take in information and learn.
My conclusion: Sometimes celebrities really just need to shut the fuck up. Tell us what you believe. Don't tell us what to believe. Fuck you.
